Payment and Insurance Information

My clients who choose to work with me pay for their sessions in different ways.   Some use their health insurance to pay for my services.  In order to do this, you must verify your health insurance coverage before our first visit.

If you choose to use your insurance to pay for counseling, I must also provide to them a clinical diagnosis. This is the only way health insurance companies will reimburse providers for their services.

I always like to be up front with my clients about this before we begin working together.   These are the following insurance companies that I have a contractual agreement to work with:

  • Aetna
  • ComPsych
  • Humana
  • Medicare
  • Tricare
  • Value Options

I am also an out of network therapist for most other insurance companies including Blue Cross Blue Shield.   What this means is that you would be responsible for paying for my services up front.  I would then give you a super bill at the end of session  that you would then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.   I could also check and see what type of benefits you have and how much your health insurance will reimburse you for.

Some of my clients, even those who have health insurance, prefer to pay out of pocket.    Some of the reasons they choose this method is first and foremost for privacy reasons.    The other is what I mentioned above: in order to be reimbursed I need to provide them with a clinical diagnosis since insurance companies operate using the medical model.

My average cost per therapy session is $125.   I do offer a sliding scale for those who choose to pay out of pocket for treatment.   I also accept payment via credit cards as well as PayPal.

If you have any questions regarding your health insurance coverage or payment options, please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
